Limerick Challenge Week 42: Homonyms
I hope everyone is having a great weekend, mine has been busy so far between driving my son to birthday parties and volunteering at the Fall Festival in his school. I apologize for not being able to post the challenge yesterday as I normally do, but I hardly had laptop time yesterday!
I love the very different takes I got to read from last weekβs challenge. Very tastefully done, all of them!
If you have not already done so, you can click here to view all the limerick submissions for the last week.
Now, letβs take a look at the Top 5 limericks from Week 41 challenge.
The limerick superstar of this weekβ¦β¦β¦β¦.*drumrolls please* Leara of Learawrites!
Syrupy sweet like the juice of a fruit,
Your words drip, heavy, resolute.
You lean in closer, and I taste the deceit
Thinly disguised by charm and wit. You donβt miss a beat.
There is no substitute for the joy of the pursuit.
Congratulations, LearaΒ β the Limerick Superstar of the week!
PH of Itβs PH provides his two cents on a tasteful marriage via his limerick and Stutter Stepping Heart teaches us about mindful cooking through her limerick!
While, Peter of Peterβs Ponderings is busy pondering about all the Trifles that he had over the week, Kay of The Diary of a Married Woman tells us the best way to bake! π
Now that the Top 5 limericks have been announced, let us move on to the Week 42 Challenge.
The prompt for this week is βHomonymsβ. This week pick a homonym of your choice and write a limerick which includes 2 or more meanings of the word you picked. [For those of you in doubt, homonyms are words with multiple meanings.]
I am excited about this weekβs challenge and look forward to reading your limericks for this prompt!
For those who are new to the challenge, here are the rules:
- Each week, a prompt theme will be provided and participants are to use this prompt as a base for their limericks.
- This challenge will run fromΒ Saturday to Friday, and you may link up your Limerick anytime during these specific days.
- All Limericks for Week 42 Challenge are due in latest byΒ 5PM EST on Friday, October 21, 2016.
- After the deadline, the link-up button will not accept any more submissions.
- Please tag your Limerick with Limerick Poetry Challenge so that others interested can check out your Limerick.
- Please remember to pingback to this post on your Limerick Post and also to link it up using the InLinkz (Blue Froggy) button.
- For Photo Prompts, remember to use the photo in your post and to attribute the source.
- A small donation is made to the local charity in the name of the Winners who receives the βLimerick Superstarβ badge.
- Receiving this badge means that not only are you a Limerick Superstar, you helped feed one hungry person with your limerick! The winners can choose to display the badge on their blogs!
- If you are interested in participating in this challenge, please follow this blog site to receive instant email notifications of the post with the Word prompts for each week.
Β Finally, here is my take on the prompt:
The idea was novel
She couldnβt help but marvel
The wonder of her words
Told a story unheard
In her very first novel!

Not sure what Limerick is and how do I participate in this?
MindandLifeMatters
A limerick is poetry in 5 lines where the 1, 2 and 5 lines rhyme with each other and the 3 and 4 lines rhyme with each other.
To participate, write a limerick and post it to your blog with a ping back to this post. Then add the URL of your post to InLinkz by clicking on the blue froggy button.
The instructions for participation are posted in the bullet points in the post.
Let me know if you need any help.

Interesting. Gonna try my pen at this. Thank you.

Great! Look forward to reading your limerick on the homonyms prompt. π

I know you’re busy, but I’m already freaking out–I’m uncertain whether you want words that both sound alike and are spelled alike–but have different meanings; or whether you will accept words that sound alike, but have different spellings and meanings. My draft contains the latter, so if you could let me know which way you want us to go, I will know whether to rewrite mine or not. Thanks very much π (English Majors are so much trouble, no? π )
MindandLifeMatters
Hey Delyn, sorry for the delay but for some reason your comments were all in my spam folder and I just saw it. I have unspammed them now.
To answer your question, the words have to be homonyms as in words with same spelling yet different meanings for example bear (to go through something) and bear (π» the animal).
Hope this helps and I wasn’t too late! π
Delyn Merce
Not sure why I’d be spammed, but from time to time I have to fish someone out of mine, so I guess it was my turn π I had to bail on the assignment–too much going on π
MindandLifeMatters
Oh sure, no problems take a break and come back for the assignment next week.
You can reach out to Askimet if it keeps happening and your comments end up in spam.
Delyn Merce
I just reread your instructions–looks like I need to go back to the writing clipboard π
MindandLifeMatters
Okay hope it wasn’t too much trouble π

Very clever prompt this week Rashmi, this ties in very nicely with the prompt I set for the Six Word Story Challenge this week so I have used the same homonym I set over there as my inspiration.
